Robert Fripp's Diary

Up at this morning My

07.25 Up at 04.20 this morning. My morning sittings are currently taking place on a chair rather than the floor. Although my back is mostly pain free, my left leg still suffers what I experience as excrutiating shooting cramp. Recovery is still ongoing. Morning reading now to one side, I am firing up for a leap into cyberspace accompanied by P4 roaring in San Francisco. Beast! Beast!

17.52 My fingertips are sore but the pesky digits are snapping like more willing whipcords than yesterday. But the main centre to be galvanised is the right hand and the operation of the wrist. I have read the Diaries and the Guestbook, and visited connected sites. The Gaucho website caught me in an inescapable mode of inaction so I had to force down this new bells & whistle computer to get out. That's what The Gauchos do to you: get involved and you'll never be able to get away from them.

Response To The Guestbook:

Les Fradkin (October 17) asks why the names of other KC members are not included in the copyright assignment (attributed to myself) on a Virgin KC release. Les has corresponded personally with Peter Sinfield on this point.

A question for Les, and any other interested visitor: what do you think the answer to this is? The King Crimson phonographic right is vested in RF with an exclusive license to Virgin. Why are the other members not credited when, supposedly, the Venal Leader blows trumpets on the subject of copyright and even went to law with EG when they sold the copyrights to Virgin Records? Hypocrisy? A developing venality (were that possible)? Putting one over on his ex-rhythm buddies?

So, what do you think Les? Perhaps Peter would have a suggestion?

One of the pieces of paperwork which I have brought from my desk at World Central is a notice of an addition to the list of biographies of those seeking election to the Songwriters Executive. There are two: Barry Mason & Peter Sinfield: "Lucky but still angry songwriter/producer. Catalogue runs from King Crimson via Roxy Music, ELP, Cher, Bucks Fizz to Celine Dion. Seeks election to the Board of the Academy. Purpose to continue to fight against the 'slash for cash` policies of ancient music dragons." I have voting rights in the election and, if I had brought ballot papers with me, Peter would be getting my vote. I hope he is elected.
